Redfin launches brokerage service in Vancouver

Redfin, a US-based real estate brokerage, launched its brokerage service in Greater Vancouver on Friday with a team of full-service agents and a 1% listing fee.

Vancouver is the second Canadian city for Redfin, which launched in Toronto in February and plans to expand to other Canadian cities in the future. Redfin agents will serve homebuyers and sellers throughout the region from Delta extending up through the Whistler ski area.

"We've been encouraged by a few early sales in Toronto, and have reason to believe we can start just as strong in Vancouver," said Glenn Kelman, Redfin’s CEO. "Given how expensive housing still is here, even after all the changes in the market, we hope that tech-savvy Vancouver homebuyers and sellers will be drawn to our combination of great service and low prices."

On Redfin’s Canadian website and mobile apps, customers can search for homes for sale in most provinces. Redfin.ca currently displays homes for sale in BC via the Canadian Real Estate Association’s Data Distribution Facility. In the coming months, the site will add more listing and home sale data from the local Multiple Listing Service and other sources.

Brooks Findlay will run the company’s real estate operations in Vancouver as managing broker, bringing local real estate sales and leadership experience to the Redfin team.

"The response to Redfin in Vancouver has been fantastic so far. Consumers have been eagerly awaiting our launch," said Findlay. "Already we have five listings on the market, totalling nearly $9 million, a testament to the desire for our service here in Vancouver.”
